Stena Line has ordered two new hybrid RoPax ferries of its E-Flexer 2.0 design, to be built at China Merchants Industry Weihai in China and delivered in 2030. The day ferries are meant for the Gothenburg–Frederikshavn route, where they will replace Stena Danica (on the route since 1984) and Stena Jutlandica (since 1996). Each will be 214.5 metres long, carry 1,500 passengers and offer 2,750 lane metres of freight across three vehicle decks. They can run on conventional fuel or electricity and are designed to be converted to full electric operation once charging infrastructure exists. Stena says the extra freight capacity suits its planned move to a new port location in Arendal, which has a rail connection.
